A top Indian Premier League official has denied English county Surrey are set to host a number of games in next year's competition.

The agent of Surrey spinner Saqlain Mushtaq said on Tuesday the county, whose home ground is The Oval, were negotiating to bring a portion of the Twenty20 tournament to London.

But Sundar Raman, chief executive officer of the IPL, told PA Sport: "There is a lot of speculation going on, but none of this is true.

"We do not comment on speculation and it is ridiculous to do so.

"We are not in talks with Surrey at this moment."

Saqlain's agent claimed the county's hopes of attracting the IPL could hamper his client's future with the club.

Tournament officials would be unwilling to strike a deal with Surrey while Saqlain is on their books as he is also contracted to the rebel Indian Cricket League.

Azhar told www.pakpassion.net: "Its true that Surrey County Cricket Club are hoping to host some IPL games at the Oval next season.

"The county are being told by the IPL that they need to resolve the Saqlain Mushtaq issue as he is a contracted ICL player."

Saqlain is halfway through a two-year contract with Surrey, who were relegated from Division One of the County Championship this season.
