Dillon du Preez wants to show the national cricket selectors that he is ready to fill the gap that Shaun Pollock left as an all rounder in the Protea team.
Du Preez is also ready to make a step up if the selectors ask him to replace Ryan McLaren in the Protea one day and Twenty20 squad. McLaren earlier withdrew from the Protea squad to rather honour his contract with Kent - leaving the national selectors searching for Pollock's replacement from scratch again.
Du Preez will therefore be the big talking point when the Gestetner Diamond Eagles face the Highveld Lions in a match from tomorrow.
"Look, it is obviously a big dream of mine to play for the Proteas," Du Preez told OFM Sport.
"I'm very happy to have been asked to join the Proteas training camp later this month in Kimberley. But hey, there has been no talk that I will get picked at all. I will just take it one step at a time."
Du Preez acknowledged that Pollock has left huge steps to fill, but that he would love to represent his country and show his worth as an all rounder.
Claude Henderson, a team mate of Du Preez's at Leicestershire, recently told Cricket365, "Dillon's had a nice season for us, he's a good bowler, I've never seen a guy hit the ball further. I think he's a good prospect for South Africa if they are looking at him."
